Chet used to put me on the spot a lot. He'd always use me as an example. You know, the team didn't realize it, but he was coaching me. He was coaching me in every practice. But he was able to pick on people that he believed on, and he knew that there were certain individuals that were high performers, and he could kind of just stir up the pot and get them going and then challenge other people to challenge them. And then, you know, we got to work through things together as a team. And I think when you have a facilitator, you have a builder in there who is able to see things from a different perspective, has, you know, just a different objective than we had. Coming into was just so healthy. It was so healthy. It was hard. There were times where people would cry at practice, for sure. And it's not easy getting called out, you know, getting called out in the middle of practice, especially if you're new. And I had to learn a couple hard lessons early on about the difference between challenging people versus being curious with people. And he would call me outright in practice about it. And I think that made people feel good because they could see that I'm human and that, you know, I'm not going to get all pissed off if, you know. And then I got put in my place that I was humbled very, very, very often. One time, he would put me in the middle of the room. We'd play, you know, this boardroom game where you had the CEO boardroom and you have people playing the CEO. And we did a lot of role playing. There was one time where he was talking about modeling the way, and he asked me about our workouts. I used to work out with him in the mornings with a bunch of guys, and we do what we call our 3P workouts, the push ups, planks and pull ups. And. And then he asked me to get up and go start doing pull ups. And he told me to do over 40 of them. And I remember thinking, I can't do 40 pull ups. He had everybody come over and stand around me, and they were counting them out one by one, and I got to like, 25, and I just started to die. And, you know, you hit that, that last couple that you can't get up, you're just, like shaking and you're trying to pull up. And I knocked out a couple more, so I think I had 27. And he wrote a blog about that. I don't know why it sticks out in my mind, but it was powerful. We all sat back in our seats and he asked everybody what they just saw, and he was teaching them a lesson that people remember what they see and they remember how you make them feel based on you being the example and you being the model. And if I would have just sat and talked about my workouts, they wouldn't have thought anything about it. It would have been in one ear, out the other. And it's not very memorable, but how he had me get up and how they were all surrounding me, and they were kind of cheering me on. And, you know, like, people remember that we talked about it, like, years later, they all remembered it, who were there. So I. There's something to be said about, you know, his number one principle model, the way. And I think, you know, it's a great principle. People say lead by example, but every leader's got to step up, and they've got to show their team what they expect and how to do things. And it's a gift that you can give people around you, especially if you're not happy with their performance and you want them to do things better and you know how to do it, you have an obligation as a leader to do it. So that was. That was definitely a memorable practice for me.
