Brett Kaufman is Built to Lead

Brett Kaufman started his company to gather passionate people and build a connected organization. His "Built to Lead" approach hires for skill, passion, and effort, then guides people through discovery questions that force self-examination and test their identity. Kaufman says the process awakened him from unconscious patterns and reframed past difficulties as part of a larger, perfecting architecture.

The whole purpose of me starting my company was really to create an organization where I could be with people that were passionate and like minded and shared the same, you know, opus. And yet, you know, we could uniquely, you know, be ourselves too, but you know, you know, one uniquely connected group. Yeah, we hired for, built to lead, you know, skill, passion, effort. It's this inner work, you know, it's. It's really figuring out who you are and what you believe and what you love to do and, you know, what your view of the world is. And you know, you go through a step by step process to author that, to write that down and to try it on and then, you know, see if it fits and you live into it. I wasn't getting challenged, I wasn't getting pushed to think differently, to ask myself questions I had never asked myself before, to start to see where maybe I didn't know what I believed, that I was unconscious, you know, not awake. Right. I was just kind of going through the motions. I was doing the things I always thought that I was supposed to do. I was unconscious, you know, not doing the things that I actually wanted to do because I didn't think that I could or should. And, and Chet and, and built a lead, you know, right from the start, you know, with, with discovery questions, you, you can't help but to really start to see the gaps, you know, where, you know, you don't know what you think and believe. You haven't stopped to, to, to ask yourself, what do I believe? You know, why am I here? Who am I? What do I think about, you know, things like life and death and, you know, that wakes you up pretty fast. It's leadership training at its, at its highest and finest. My worldview now is like, everything is, you know, perfect and it's always happening, you know, in that divine architecture and, and everything that ever happened to me, everything that I ever experienced, everything that I even thought for some portion of my life was bad was perfect. Right? And it's. And if when you kind of like stop and, you know, you know, look at the matrix, you know, you're like, wow, you know, it's really happening. I look back at the million things that happened up to that point from birth that, you know, are all part of it, I got super crystal clear on who I am and why I'm here in the world. And, and, and so you get to walk through life knowing that, you know, you get to really let that be your filter and you forget. You, you know, you get, you know, pulled off track and you know, but you come back and you learn to come back faster and faster. And when you are coming from a place of clarity, you can just be in the world. You can be more present in the world. And that's the framework that built to lead, I think, gives you.
