A short YouTube monologue by Chad Silverstein (Day 13 of a series) emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and identity work for leaders. He encourages practical self-assessment (pen-and-paper, online tools, feedback), warns that AI can aggregate assessments, and invites viewers to share work in the Build to Lead forum where a process and examples will be provided starting the next day.

Day 13 Know thyself. This day's loaded and there's just so much in here. But, you know, we're in the identity piece tomorrow. You're going to see the I am statements. And I think there's nothing more powerful and more attractive than a leader who knows who they are, someone who can be hard on themselves, not down on themselves, someone who can, you know, kick their own ass harder than they kick other people's and to start looking inward. And that's kind of what the whole build journey is all about, is putting pen to paper and figuring out who you are. How would you describe, describe yourself? How do you think you show up in the world, whether you're in school, whether you're at work, whether you're at home or you're in your community and just having an awareness, having the self awareness and that comes through working on yourself. And it's important that you have different tools at your, at your fingertips that you use them. You can do everything from self assessments, you know, online to getting some feedback from people who are close to you. There's a lot of different things in a lot of different ways. I mean, one of the best ways is put yourself in a room by yourself and just put pen to paper. But, you know, that's not the only way. So as you kind of head down your builder's journey and you start to get clear on who you are and you start doing some of this hard work and the building your core essential, it's important that you start looking inward and, you know, getting to know yourself a little bit better. It's kind of scary that you can load all of your assessments into something like ChatGPT today and ask it questions and have IT know you better than you know yourself, but that's the reality. And most people never spend any time or invest any effort into knowing who they are. So do the hard work, don't skip it and make sure you share it. Contribute in the Build to Lead forum, get some feedback. You'll see some examples of this. There is a process for it. We'll go through that with you starting tomorrow. And if you need any help, just reach out.
