Day 133: Again let's train...

Chad Silverstein explains why your "why" matters more than willpower. He shares how clients quit smoking and lost weight when they connected goals to family, and points to Apple's purpose-driven success as proof that knowing your reason keeps you going.
Chapters
There are a lot of mantras in Build to Lead. One of them that I used to get crushed with all the time is why, why, why?
Three good whys.
And I used to end a lot of my practices with Chet, and he'd.
Say to me, send me three good whys.
It was maybe an idea that I wanted to do.
It was something that I wanted to change.
And, you know, his feeling was, if I didn't have three good whys, then.
It probably wasn't worth pursuing. And it ended up being true in.
Many of the cases. And I think when it comes to you figuring out what you want, why.
You'Re here, and really asking yourself that, challenging yourself and asking yourself, why? Why do you want that? You know, I do this a lot.
With a lot of people that I work with, and a lot of times they can't answer it.
They don't know why yet they're doing things.
So I think, you know, you have.
To kind of be careful to guard against yourself. We are our own biggest and worst enemy.
We do things for the sake of.
Doing them many times without knowing why.
And that is just such a waste of time and energy. And usually the people who are successful, they're high performers, they accomplish.
They have such a big why.
I've seen it happen in practice so many times where you'd see someone literally over time transform themselves.
And when you ask them why, it was because, you know, they.
They would say things like, I want to be there for my kids when.
I'm older, so that's why they've lost 30 pounds. Or that why they quit smoking.
Because, you know, they. They saw, you know, someone in their.
Family die young, and that's their why.
They don't want to die.
That's a strong why, and that will push you.
And if you don't have a strong why for whatever it is you're doing, then it won't sustain. And so if you want to be a high performer at your job, and if you want to be able to lead others, you got to have a really good why. I mean, there's a reason why Simon Sinek. Start with why.
His book, his YouTube, everything is so popular.
It makes sense.
You know, if you look at his.
Example that he uses with Apple, they have a big why.
And it's not just to build a phone.
It's. It's the why behind it.
It's how it changes people's lives. It's how it connects people. There's a why people resonate with it.
We resonate with it. And we keep it in our pocket.
And many times in our bed.
That's how strong the why is. So do you have a why?
And if you have not reached your goals, and if you have failed year.
After year on your New Year's resolutions, know that it's because you don't have a strong why. So figure out what that is and.
Get busy chasing it down.
