Day 137: Defeated...

Excerpt from a YouTube video (Day 137: "Defeated...") featuring Chad Silverstein in conversation with another speaker about perseverance. The speakers contrast two responses to resistance: quitting after initial failure versus persistently trying new approaches. Central ideas: know your motivating "why," view failure as information rather than final, and cultivate a never-give-up mindset illustrated by an anecdote about competitive drive.
Chapters
There's definitely two ways to look at today's discipline. You have people who will try things and they're met with resistance and they just say it's not going to work and they quit. And then you have people who just will not stop looking for better ways to keep trying to make it successful.
To win, to overcome.
And they just find that will within.
Them to just never give up.
So what is it, you know, what is it about these individuals who just.
They just cannot quit?
They don't see quitting as even an option. And you have some people who will try something.
Maybe it's starting a business, maybe it's.
Coming up with an idea at work.
And it doesn't work and then they stop. And again, not necessarily quitting, but they just don't keep going, they don't try to do the next thing.
And I think that has a lot to do with again, understanding and having.
Some self awareness of what drives you. What's your motivator? I am personally a very, very competitive person. And you know, I lost a state championship when I was in high school for wrestling. And I say to this day, you know, to my kids that that at.
The time was one of the hardest.
Things that I was dealing with. Losing something I trained for for so long. But it has driven me for the past almost 30 years now because I don't like losing. And when I'm not getting what I want, I'm going to try harder and I'm just going to try different things. And I think again it's this never giving up mindset. It's jumping from one thing to the next with enthusiasm and not even seeing failure as an option.
You got to know when to fold them for sure.
But trying something one time and stopping it's no good. Have the why behind why you're doing what you're doing. If you don't have a why, then it would make sense why you don't keep trying.
But most people are pursuing something because.
They know why they want to.
Hopefully these people in the build a league community. And just because you're met with resistance and your first try doesn't go the.
Way you want, I would say expect that. We used to say normal when things.
Would not go our way.
It's normal when you'd hire someone you thought they were going to be unbelievable, they didn't work out the way you wanted. It's normal. Keep going and it's easy to give up. I've seen entrepreneurs, I'm not trying. You can't find anybody for this position. It's impossible and it's a mindset and it's not true. And we talk ourselves out of being successful. So where do you see failure in.
Your life and how do you react to it?
And people say they don't like to even think it's a failure, but not being able to accomplish something could certainly be a failure. It doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Your response to it, though, like it says in today's discipline says everything.
And you have to know what drives.
You and why it's driving you.
