Day 142: Major Taylor...

A short motivational monologue by Chad Silverstein emphasizing the interplay between physical health and mental/figurative "core" for effective leadership and general well-being. He argues that when both physical and figurative aspects are maintained, life and performance improve, and offers practical habit-building advice (e.g., installing a pull-up bar in his office) for busy people.

I've always said there are certain things in your life that when they're going well, you know, things are good even when things aren't going so good. But when you have a certain, certain things aren't going so great, everything sucks. You know, when you're younger, when you have good grades in school, things are okay. But when your grades suck or you don't do good on a test, it's like everything else around you just falls apart. You know, it's the same thing at work. Same thing when you're making, you know, good money and you're able to support yourself. It's like when things aren't going so well, like everything else around you could fall apart. So when it comes to becoming built to lead, the figurative and the literal core, when you're working on your figurative core and you're focused on being healthy and you feel good, you know, and you usually know that, you know, when you bend down and put on your socks, when you tighten your belt, how do you feel? How old do you feel? But when you have those two components kind of being worked on, it makes life so much easier. But when one of those is not doing so good, it makes everything else around you suck. I mean, you could have things going great and you just don't feel good about yourself because you're not physically healthy. And it sucks. It sucks feeling overweight, it sucks feeling like you're not healthy. And you know, so you just do something. Build in. I always say build in something into your day. If you don't have time to work out, figure out ways to build in something healthy. I put a pull up bar in my office so that when I walk into my office I can just knock out some pull ups. It works for me. You know, sometimes I don't have time to go work out as much as I want to. So again, try to figure out how to build in a healthy lifestyle along with working on the figurative side of your core. You know, you can't have one without the other. And when you have both and you're working on both, even if they're not at its ultimate result, you will feel good and it will help inspire you in other areas of your life. And if you're not there, then you know what I'm talking about. When you don't have one of those where you want it to be, it just, it just sucks. So you got to do something about it and stop saying to yourself that it sucks.
