Day 161: Sweat the right stuff...

Chad Silverstein argues that real work happens inside: clarify your values, build daily discipline even in small chunks, and track how you spend time and money. Control what you can control. The rest is learning to stay calm when storms come.

There's actually a consequence by not doing the hard work, by not figuring out who you are, what you believe, how you want to live, it's a big consequence. And if you're going through this book day by day, whether you're disciplined to stay on it daily or whether you visit it once a week, you fall into one or two camps, you're either doing it or you're not. And by this time in the book, you have a good indication of how disciplined you are with it. And it doesn't mean that if you have not been successful and you're not where you want to be, that you can't change. You certainly can. Every passing second gives you an opportunity to change. But it is going to make your life a lot easier once you start getting the clarity. If you decide to do the hard work, and if you've been struggling to discipline yourself because you don't have time, then you just need to figure out how to build it in to your process into your day. You know, maybe it's before you go to bed and you keep a notebook by your bed. You know, I. I have a morning routine and I build it in. I just build it in, and it's. It's very consistent. And if, even if that means a couple minutes a day, you can't tell me that one of the most important things in the world you don't have time for, because you do. And if you need to question and challenge yourself, just look at your bank account and look at your calendar and look at where you're spending all your time. Check out the screen time on your phone. Call yourself out. And be realistic of the fact that if. If living a life that is worth living is important to you, then you'll invest some time designing it again. You can't control results, but you can certainly control your effort. And not working on yourself internally and not figuring out all the things that we're teaching is on you. And if you want to make your life a little bit easier, because when the storm hits, this is what helps you stand. You know, I was like thinking about the example of a tree that's out in the middle of nowhere that has the roots and that big storm comes through and it can just stand strong versus a tree that doesn't dig in with roots and just gets ripped right out. And when you look at that analogy and you think about human beings and they go through a storm and they emotionally react and literally crumble, versus someone who just calmly navigates through as if like they're not even phased, even though inside they might be. But you can't tell. They're cool and calm. And if you lead others, they need to see you cool and calm and not reacting. And you know, being a tornado, walking through your office, shooting off emails, being irritable. You got to be tough on yourself, hard on yourself, not down on yourself. And like day six in 161, sweat the right stuff. It's great reminder and you're not off the hook. Keep working, keep building, keep writing.
