Day 17: Matrix...

Chad Silverstein uses The Matrix to argue that most people unconsciously absorb beliefs from family, social media, and algorithms. He recommends writing out your "I believe" statements on family, trust, work, and performance to reclaim agency over what you actually think.

If you've been in Built Elite before, you know that the worldview is usually where we always start when we start to build our core. In fact, if you look at the 12 Essentials Playbook, you'll see it starts with building your core and starts with worldview. And there's nothing more important than knowing what you believe. So today's day is the Matrix. And if you've seen the Matrix and you know what it's all about, it's kind of a crazy movie if you think about it. I remember I had to see it a couple times before I really understood what was going on. But we live in a matrix. Although the point of this melody line today and how it applies to our worldview might be a little different. But you can get lost in your own matrix if you don't know what you believe because you're living in someone else's world. Everybody has a worldview. Everybody has one. And what we correlate the matrix with is we use the Matrix as a way to filter through all the things that happen to us throughout the day and throughout our life so that we can filter through what we believe, so then we can take action and kind of live out and respond, and based on us knowing what we believe instead of just what the matrix is telling us. And today, we've never had more of a matrix. I love. I always hear Chet talking about how, you know, back in the day and forever for history, how faith and family were our biggest influence. And for the first time in history, now social media and work is our biggest influence, which is really sad. Really sad. And your goal with your worldview is to become your own biggest influence. It's to get clear on what you believe, know why you believe it, know what exceptions you're willing to make. And it's getting away from all the things that your parents and your coaches and your phone and your community and everyone in your life that raised you, you know, brainwashed you. And not to say that it's wrong, but you gotta think for yourself. You gotta wake up. One of the things I love when I first joined Build to Lead is Chet used to always say, we wake up dead people. And I say, well, that's a pretty strong comment. But people are wandering through, sleepwalking through life, believing everything they hear from everyone. Today we have more things beeping and buzzing in our pockets or by our head when we go to sleep than we've ever had before. And everyone is sitting around with a big opus and a big dream, trying to get our attention and Some of these people have been become experts at it. And you have to fight that. You have to fight that. And you have to know that you could be unconsciously living through someone else. You have an algorithm that is perfected knowing what they're getting your attention with six to eight hours a day if you're online. And you got to wake yourself up. And the way you do that is to get clear on what you believe. And that's what the worldview, that's what this matrix, matrix is all about. So 1.0 version of your worldview, this is your I believe statements. And there's no right, wrong way to do this. I've seen it done tons of different ways. Ask questions if you're confused, but just pick any topic you can talk about. Family, friends, work, performance, trust. I mean, you name it. What do you believe about all these things? Because, you know, I take something like trust. And I know I had people that I used to work with, they'd say, I don't trust until you earn my trust. You know, and for me, I trust first. So, you know, why is that? You know, that person could have completely gotten screwed over. Who knows, they could have been cheated on. They could have had someone steal money from them. And so they have this worldview belief, and they have it very strong because of inexperience. But a lot of times those things, they stay with us. They stay in our core, and it's not who we are. And if you really think about it, that may not be really what you believe. But if you never put pen to paper and if you never get clear and try to reframe it and get challenged and challenge your own worldview, you can get stuck thinking a certain way your whole life, and not until you're old and gray look back and say, wow, like, you know, I screwed up. I actually don't believe that. But most people, unfortunately, get caught their whole life living a life where they're not thinking about anything. So if you're just doing the hard work and putting version 1.0 down, you're ahead of most people. So don't live in the Matrix. What color pill are you taking? And if you need a reminder, go watch. Go watch a clip or two of the Matrix because it'll. It'll open your eyes. And if you can see the similarities of what we're living in today, it's. It's pretty crazy.
