Day 174: Genuine objectivity...

A short conversational transcript from Chad Silverstein (Day 174), reflecting on leadership, mentorship, and team development within Build2Lead. Chad emphasizes modeling behavior, sharing experience without asking others to do what leaders don't do themselves, and the value of candid feedback to help team members grow and build trust.

This was a cool day to read in the book, just because with over 350 team practices with Chet, I heard Chet being described by many people in many different ways in many different contexts, and they were all right. They're all true. So it was cool to see someone describing Chet that way and describe the builders that way. And Chet makes a good point. What our role is and how we guide people and what our. What our objective is. And I think that's what you're gonna get when you have people who are doing the hard work themselves. You know, it's the one thing I'll tell you I love about Build2Lead is that we don't ask anyone to do anything that we're not already doing. And when it comes to someone like Chet, and for me, at least Personally, I had 25 years in business. I've experienced a lot. And doesn't mean I know everything, but I definitely have been put in situations with partners, employees, clients, personally, professional, you name it, big relationships. I mean, I've experienced a lot. And so I have definitely a perspective that many times people can glean from and benefit from. And I love to give that over, and I love to tell stories about it, and I love also to have people be curious and pull it out of me. And I think, you know, being able.
To lead your team and find the.
Healthy balance of being able to share, but then also being able to get the best out of everyone else around.
You so that they can share, I.
I think there's a benefit to having.
Everybody together be that way and not just one party.
And the build to lead builders, they help facilitate that in team practices, not.
Only by modeling the way, but by.
Prompting other people in the practice, by.
Picking on them because we care and believe about them, especially our clients. And I know, because I was picked on for many, many years by Chet, and he made me better. And that's the whole aim, is to.
Make your people better better by getting.
Them to be able to, you know, grow and get stronger and learn about you and about them and about how the team can find that chemistry and that flow.
And the only way to do that.
Is to spend time with them and to try to get the best out of them, by getting them to feel.
Comfortable trusting you, sharing things, growing, and.
Then experiencing, you know, the aha. Moments together that you can celebrate and then also embrace the tough times together so that you can lean on each other for support and be there so that you're not trying to do it all by yourself. And that is rare. And if you have it, you're blessed.
