Day 181: Stretch your strengths...

Chad Silverstein argues you should identify your natural strengths and invest time developing them rather than staying in jobs that don't fit. Following what pulls you internally, he says, is how you avoid regret and find work aligned with your actual gifts.

You know, life is an incredible thing when you really sit back and think about the fact that there's not one person on this earth that has what you have. Like, you're designed in a way by an amazing creator that gave you abilities and gifts and a way of being that no one else in the world has, exactly like you have. And if you think about how incredible that is with the billions of people that are on this earth, that no two people are exactly the same or have the exact same, exact same skill set, competence, it's unbelievable. And our job is to figure out what that is. Our whole purpose is to use what we were given and then maximize it and do the best that we can with it. And you're doing yourself a disservice if you're not one. Figuring out what that is, your unique ability, what you love to do, that you're great at. That's natural. People take jobs every day and it's like a bad fit. And then they wonder why they're miserable and want to quit after six months because you're not good at what you do, and you. You stink at it and you don't like it. Like, so then why are you doing it? And usually the answer is because they got offer that they couldn't refuse. They had to pay the bills, which is fair. Like, I get it, but a weak excuse to not be looking while you're. While you're in this mode of hating your job, look for the next opportunity, because there's always another opportunity that you can get. And if you can figure out what you're good at, what you're naturally drawn to, and I think that's important, is to know yourself enough that you can feel yourself being pulled to something that you like, go with it. Don't fight that. Don't fight your body, your nature is telling you something, and you don't want to suppress that. And a lot of people do. And so this is the part of the identity of not necessarily knowing who you are and trying to figure that out, but then taking it a layer more deeper and saying, okay, what do I like to do and what do I want to spend my life doing? And what is my purpose? And you got to work towards figuring that out. Even if you feel like it's like an impossible thing to figure out, and you may never know, but your inner self, your soul, that depth inside you is going to know when things are just kind of flowing and you just feel good, you're doing what you like and you're man. If you can Just taste that. You don't want to let it go. You don't want to let it go. You don't want to take it for granted if you have it. And your job is to figure out how to maximize what you've been given as a gift. And if you don't know what your gifts are, there are ways to figure those things out. You got to spend some time figuring that out and then you got to work and spend your time and invest, honing in and mastering that and becoming the best that you can. The worst thing is ever is to think about coming at the end of your life and not being compared to why you are not like other people. Why were you not the best version of yourself? You were given the tools, the resources, the people, the scenario that you were given in your life and you could have reached X and you didn't. And the answer is why? Why didn't you? And you're not going to have a good excuse. Not going to have a good excuse. And right now is the time that you can actually look in the mirror and say, what can I do today to make sure that I'm going to not only maximize what I've been given as a gift, my skills. And if you don't know what they are yet, I'm going to figure them out and then just work at them tirelessly. It's just an incredible thought when you think that you have the power to do that. So the question is, why are you not doing it? And if you are doing it, how can you do even more of it?
