Day 193: Past passion...

A short motivational YouTube monologue by Chad Silverstein (Day 193) arguing that personal adversity typically leads to growth and later positive outcomes. He encourages listeners to reframe setbacks, learn from past challenges, and shorten the time it takes to recognize the upside; includes a personal anecdote about buying out a business partner that flipped his perspective.

So this concept in day 193 is so incredible. I think about this a lot and I'm going to just remind you of it now and have you do it. If you look at your life and you think about the hardest things that you've gone through, can you think of anything that happened in the past that didn't lead to something either positive or to that next expression of your life or to wherever you ended up, or that you have something in your life now that you wouldn't have if that wouldn't have happened? And usually when I ask that question to most people, they don't have a good answer. They can always see something positive coming out of the toughest times. And it's true. Through adversity, through challenge, through that stressful scenario. Usually you break free, sometimes can take a lot longer than you would hope, and sometimes you can't understand it or don't see it right away. But we're designed to be stressed, to break free, and then to grow. If you're going through life without any adversity, it's not a way to grow. And there's no way for you to be able to reach the levels that you want to reach. Because what gets you to the higher levels, whether it be through performance relationships, it's through the learning, through the tough times. And so if you can remind yourself that and catch it while you're going through one, that is a, that's an incredible skill and a discipline that most people can't do. And if you're in the built lead network, you can be sure that you'll be reminded of that as you're going through the tough times, that there is going to be a light at the end of the tunnel. This too will pass. And the scorecard win for you is when you can study yourself and see that you've closed the gap for how much time it takes you to realize it. I remember one time when my first partner decided that he wanted to retire from the business and have me buy him out. And at the time I was dedicated to be with him forever. And when he told me he wanted me to buy him out, I remember the feeling in my stomach, just the loss aversion and the feeling that, you know, he doesn't want to be my partner anymore. I was just stuck in my own head and it was, I was scared. I was young. And I remember driving home and I called my friend and he was like, are you kidding me? That is unbelievable. Like you're going to have the whole company by yourself. Like you get to. That's incredible. And I remember just hearing his excitement and hearing his perspective on it. It just completely flipped mine. And I remember going home and being excited, and I look back and I'm like, wow, how could I have thought something that was so hard, you know, that I was a little bit beat up about turned into something so positive so quickly? And so the goal and the aim of any leader is to kind of rebound quickly when you're going through adversity, when you're told something that's negative, when you've got bad news that just knocks you down, you got to just get back up and just know that you're going to learn something from it. Things are going to get better. This is going to pass. It may be a blip, it might take some time, but you got to use the past experiences and situations that you've had in your life as proof that this is true. Sometimes you got to write about it because you don't remember everything that's happened to you, and you sometimes want to forget about, especially if it was hard. But it's important to not forget about those things because they teach you something, and you could use those as tools to get through whatever it is you're going through now, or to get through whatever it is you're going to go through as soon as it hits you.
