Day 248: Overwhelmed...

A short YouTube conversation (Chad Silverstein and another speaker) about the importance for high performers to seek out challenges and competitive peers. The speakers argue that being the top performer on a low-performing team limits growth, and deliberate, sometimes uncomfortable challenges can raise performance.
Chapters
This day is great for people who.
Are high performers and who don't have.
A lot of people who challenge them, there is something a little.
It seems a little off to, like.
Overwhelm yourself with something. But if you're not challenging yourself, you're not growing.
And if you just accept the fact.
That you're a high performer on a.
Team that's not high performing, that's not helping you either.
You need other people around you who are going to make it hard to challenge you. And as a high performer, you may.
Not want that, because you might like.
Being the top dog, you might like.
Not having anyone compete with you because your numbers are so high, but that's.
Not going to make you better.
And it takes a rare individual to put themselves in an acutely painful situation when they don't have to, that's going to push themselves. But the elite do this. They find ways to make it really.
Hard and sometimes over tilt. You don't want to stay there too.
Long, but you definitely want to put.
Yourself in a challenging situation so that.
You can not only study how you're going to react to that, but you don't know what type of a challenge might take your level of performance to a whole nother level that you never thought was possible.
And I saw this in my company.
With so many people, and the results.
Could, you know, it can multiply. You want to be around other people who are going to be able to kick your butt.
And if you don't have that, then.
You need to find and figure out some way to find someone who will.
And if you're comfortable and you don't.
Think you have to, it's fine. You may be the top dog with.
The biggest numbers, but you're not going to get that much better.
And you know someone who is really.
Fast and runs in a race and no one else can beat them, they're.
Going to win every race. But you get up against other people who are faster than you, and you.
May lose every time, but you're going.
To run a lot faster. And there's something to be said about being challenged, putting yourself into the challenge.
Zone, and then tilting a little bit.
Into that chaos zone and then pulling.
Yourself back and testing yourself to see.
How high you can rise. It's rare.
Most people will never do that. But if you can do it, do it. And if you can't, find someone who can help you do it by putting you in some really uncomfortable positions and situations so that you can raise your performance.
