Day 251. Dream and do I always think of my good friend and my first client at Built to Lead, Ari Wikus. He used to have a sign on his desk that said, dream and do. First time we learned about this, Chet made a joke about it. He's like, you can't be just a dreamer, because if you are, you're just a daydreamer. And then he said, you can't just be a doer, because if you're just doing things, you're just going to step in a bunch of doo doo and everyone just starts cracking up. And, you know, the melody line was that you have to be a dreamer and a doer, and you need to be able to do both. So I just want to just really quickly give you my melody line on this one is that you got to be authoring your opus. No matter where you are, no matter what you're doing, no matter where you find yourself in life, you gotta always be thinking about where you're going. You know, I mean, it's not hard to think about. I use this example all the time. So if you've heard before, I'm sorry, but if you think about two boats trying to get out of the harbor and one's got a captain with a map and. And one doesn't and they take off, how far do you think the guy without the map is going to go? And the one who has navigation and knows where he's going, he's going to go. Our life is designed that way. You have to know where you're going. Otherwise you're just going to be at the mercy of other people doing what they want you to do, helping them get where they want to go. And your life is designed to be better than that. And everyone deserves to kind of be able to dream big. And if you're not dreaming big, shame on you. You're just limiting yourself because either you don't think you can do it, or it's been hammered into you since you were a little kid, or you've never been given permission to kind of take the glass ceiling away and just let yourself go and dream. This is not something you're doing every single day. It's something that you're going to get really clear on, and then you're just going to. You're going to put it away and then you're going to revisit it every once in a while. Right? The doing is the little baby steps. It's the productive actions. It's your process. It's making sure that you're on your path, aiming at something big. So we always talk about setting goals and how to set goals. And just the real simple, kind of like 101 on setting goals is you set your goal, but then you don't go try to go do your goal. And that's why everybody fails when they have goals on New Year's Eve, because they set this big goal and then they don't do it, and then they're bummed and they stop. And the productive action, the doing, is the small, almost insignificant baby steps that you can just kind of put together as wins. Win after win after win after win. I always tell people, make your productive actions so stupid and small so that you could just automatically almost get wins. So if it's something like you want to be healthier and you want to work out and you have a goal to do 100 pushups every day, well, then how about start with five, guarantee you can do five, and then do six, and then do. And work your way up. That is the way to do it. Not say, I'm gonna do 100 today, because then when you don't do 100, you're done, and you're gonna quit. And everybody experiences this. So you have to dream and you have to do. And that's really important. And you have to make sure you're always on that path. So there's some times where I'll have my opus and I'll put it up on my wall, and I won't look at it for a while. Every once in a while, then I'll go remind. But don't get me wrong, there were times where I poured myself into that thing every single day. But I'm always busy doing so. Are you a dreamer? Are you a doer? Are you doing both? Are you doing neither? It's for you to decide. Tell me what you think, write about it, and we'll go to the next day.
