Chad Silverstein spent 15 years navigating divorce, selling a company, founding another, and team conflict. He credits difficult personal work with a mentor named Chet for getting him through, and argues the time to do that work is now, before crisis hits.

More than 15 years of building with Chet. He's pretty much seen me going through everything that has been very, very hard in my life, including a divorce, selling my company, starting a new company, having conflict with people on my team, trying to grow the company. I mean, he's pretty much seen it all. And when I think back, I don't think there's any way I'd be able to kind of get through the way I got through everything that I experienced if I wasn't doing the hard work and if I wasn't doing it before it happened. You know, a lot of people have something strike in their life, and then all of a sudden they realize they gotta go get some help. That's when they want to go do start doing the hard work. But the problem is it's too late. So you have to prepare now, right now, in the present moment. And thank God I did, because Chet was really preparing me for something much bigger than what I thought he was doing, just to help me build my culture and my company and give this gift to the team. And I got. I guess I didn't realize that until now, looking back and seeing how I had to weather the storm and how I had to kind of pick myself back up during some of the darkest times, you know, that I was having. So it's definitely a truth and something you can't run from. The question is, how are you going to respond to it when you're challenged? Whether it's something in your rearview mirror, something you're coming out of right now, or it's something that's brewing and coming soon, we all have to be prepared. No one's off the hook, and you might as well get busy working on it now instead of having to get caught later on with your pants down when it's too late.
