Day 269: Pericles...

Chad Silverstein on handing off leadership of his company. Founders must accept that no one will care as much as they do, and the team that built the company may not be the team that takes it forward. Growth requires hard conversations and preloaded responses to sabotage.
Chapters
I went through a interesting transition in my built lead journey where I was leading my company, and then I decided to start another company. So I hired another leader to come in and pass the torch of leadership. And any kind of transition is going to be hard, especially in a culture like mine where I was focused 100% on the culture and the culture was going to change. And I learned a lot through that time. And the one thing I know as a leader, and if you're a founder, even more so. But no one's going to care as much as you. And you have to accept that as a reality.
And you have to be honest with.
Yourself and your team that there's a good chance that as you grow, the same team that got you to where you are is probably not going to be the same. It's not going to be the same team that's going to get you to where you.
Where you need to go and where you want to go.
And that requires a lot of change. Hard conversations, conflict, bitterness, you know, recognizing and rewarding people, all the nuances of what make a great leader great. And that's why we say you got to have just an arsenal of nuances.
That you do as a leader to.
Keep people connected, to recognize them when they're doing a great job, to perpetuate whatever it is you're trying to build in your system. And if you're not doing that, you're going to slowly lose people. And unfortunately, during a downturn or during any type of tough time, you could lose a lot more than a few people. So know that that's normal, too.
And you know, whatever.
Whatever will come, will come to pass. You hope it's just not going to hurt too hard. And usually the harder it hurts, the more you learn.
So there's something always to be said.
About the silver lining that you can.
Pull out of any kind of tough.
Period throughout your journey on, you know, as a leader, either building your company or pursuing something for yourself and your job.
But there's no excuse.
You got to keep fighting, you got to keep going, and.
Just know that sabotage is there, it exists, and don't be so caught off guard by it.
Preload how you want to respond to it when it happens, and just be ready for it.
