Day 278: Wisdom 101...

Chad Silverstein explains why we mistake perception for reality: we see things the way we are, not the way they are. Before major decisions like marriage or moving, consult people wiser than you to avoid choices driven by misleading emotions.

This day is really, really powerful. I always think about the difference between perception and perspective. I love the definition of those two things. And the first one that he lists here perceives reality. The problem is, is that a lot of times we don't. We think we do and we don't. We don't. We don't. We see things, we make things up, we assume things that aren't true. We don't know the whole story. There's always another side. And we tend to see things. And this is the perception. You think it's your reality, even though there's something else going on that you' aware of. And sometimes it takes the, you know, perspective of someone else to help you see it. And I guard against myself before every big decision to make sure that I'm talking to some other people and getting a different perspective. Because there's nothing worse than making a decision and then realizing you screwed up. And all you had to do is find out something that you could have just asked someone before making the decision. You know, you have those moments of truth in your life when you make certain decisions. Might be to get married, it might be to move. It might be to go to a certain organization and you shift, you pivot. And that literally, that creates a new path for you. It changes your whole life. So before you do those things, you want to make sure you're not basing that decision on an emotion that is giving you a reality that, like the quote says, we don't see things the way they are. We see things the way we are. That is powerful. Depending on where you are in your life, where you show up and who you're with will determine how you see certain things that happen. Well, that doesn't make it. That doesn't make it true. You know, for you, it's going to be your truth. But, you know, you may have to wake up one day and it may not be soon after you make a decision and realize you screwed up. And sometimes you got to really be, really be holding yourself accountable, put that fence around yourself to get a different perspective and to lean on some other people who are a little bit wiser than you are, who've gone through it before, who can help you see things a different way. So don't miss that piece of, of this formula. The all three of them are incredible bits of wisdom for sure.
