Day 293: Common practice...

Chad Silverstein started a community around Build2Lead because practitioners struggle to explain its core principles clearly. He uses examples from his Choice company team and an Ohio State athlete to show how repetition builds clarity, and the community gives members resources to learn and communicate the framework's essentials.

One of the things that drove me in why I launched this community was because I was practicing with teams as I was becoming a build to lead builder. And so few people actually knew what the core principles and what the pieces in the framework of Build2Lead were. They were doing the work. They heard about it all the time, but if you ask them to kind of repeat it back, they didn't do a very good job with it. The only time I've ever seen someone do an incredible job, there was two places. One was at my company, at Choice. There were people who could just rattle it off, and it was just incredible. Chet and I were talking the other day about how when we look back at our practice notes, there were so many visitors that came to our office. A lot of people came to participate with us, and my team was very open and vulnerable. They never changed a thing. But the amount of clarity that so many people had, probably because they heard it so many times, but they were able to just kind of just roll off their tongue. And I saw a freshman at Ohio State on the women's soccer team, and she blew us away after hearing one time what the formula was. And then the next practice, she was able to rattle it off. So we talk about it because it's not rocket science, but unless you're involved with it all day long, like we are in the band, it's probably not going to be second nature to you, which is why. That you need to be reminded why you need to be working on something and why you have resources in this community that allow you to be able to go in there and consume and learn anything that you're curious about and not have to wait until the next practice or kind of just shove it under the rug because you don't have a way of connecting and, you know, learning from other people. So that's, again, why this community exists. Common practice, I would say common sense, not common practice. So the core, the opus, and the pop, it is the essentials, the foundation. Know what they are, know the pieces of them, and be able to communicate and articulate what they are for you.
