A short YouTube monologue by Chad Silverstein (June 25, 2024) reflecting on perceptions of rapid technological and social change. Silverstein argues that despite visible innovations (iPhone, ChatGPT/AI) many fundamental aspects of life—daily hours, natural laws, work/pay/taxes—remain constant; he emphasizes building a strong personal core to choose when to follow trends and when to resist them.

It's funny because it's true. You know, as we've seen this boom in technology, whether it was the iPhone or whether it was ChatGPT and now AI, but things feel like they're changing. They feel different. And I think every generation is going to be able to say that every five or ten years. You can, you can point to examples of it, but the reality is that nothing's changed. The same 24 hours are in a day, you know, the same, you know, rules about, you know, laws of nature are in play, and the same, you know, process for how you make money and have to work and get it, put in your paycheck and pay taxes. I mean, it's just we. We go through this routine, and I think that it's really important to know that as much as everything in our external world changes, this is why we build a strong core and we know who we are so that we can be who we are, take a stand, and decide when we don't want to change with the trends. It's a hard thing to do, but where do you buck the trend and not do what everyone else is doing? You know, you got to get outside your bubble and realize that if you look outside in the world, people are living very different lives than you and I. And it's important to be aware of the fact that your situation can be very different. And you have to really think about what you want and. And try to live that way, because we only live once, and, you know, things aren't changing as much as we think we're changing.
