When I was reading through today's discipline and I saw Resist Impulse, I was thinking about one of the things I do with a client or someone that I'm building into. And I always ask them, what's the hardest thing that you're dealing with right now that you can't resist? The one thing that if you could stop resisting it or if you can change it could really change a lot of things in your life and make your life better. A lot of times you'll hear some hard stuff. And if you're honest with yourself and you think about where you can't resist impulse, whether it's from your phone, on your computer, with substance, talking about people and conversations, you know, whatever the. Whatever it is and wherever it finds itself and shows up in your life, the question is, what are you doing about it? And how long has it been going on? And do you even want to. Want to stop it? You have to get to a point where. And I remember being coached by Chet and. And having a lot of these where I had to kind. I just. I couldn't. I couldn't resist certain things that I. I wanted really bad. And he'd say, you have to get to a point where you're saying f. Yeah. Where you're putting a stake in the ground, and you're like, I'm done. I'm done. I'm not doing it anymore. And so if you're lazy because you're not working out and you want to start working out, you're sick of being a bum, and you're like, I need to start working out. You have to want it so bad, and you have to make that your single laser focus that you're just. You're not doing it anymore. It's just. It's a no, it's done. I'm done. And I'm. And I'm moving, and I'm going to get up and I'm going to go. And I'm not going to make any more excuses, you know, pushing things off till tomorrow. It just. If you do that, it makes no sense. So you have. You have to sometimes not wean off of whatever it is you're trying to resist. And sometimes you got to go cold turkey. And sometimes that test will get easier, and sometimes that test won't, and you just have to get comfortable with that. And so the question is, which one are you dealing with? Because everybody's got one. Everybody's got a struggle. Everybody has issues with something that holds them back in their life. And so making that a focal point of your personal and professional growth to be able to resist impulse, even if it's temporary. You know, saying, I'm not going to do something for the rest of my life and I'm going to never do it again. You know, for some people, that's not going to be realistic. Some people have the discipline to be able to do it. But you better be ready to put the stake in the ground and to say f, yeah, because if you don't, then you're just going to fool yourself and you're just going to keep choosing this chronic pain that's just going to repeat itself over and over and over. And for some people, that can be decades of either addictions or habits that aren't healthy. And so this isn't always about the worst ones. It's about things that distract us. It's about things that you can easily change. But you've been so habitually patterned to do these things over and over because you've done them for so long. And I think it's important for you to realize that you have the choice. You have the choice to talk to someone about it, trust someone. There's probably a few people maybe you have in your life that you can depend on to be able to share something and trust them with something very personal and sensitive to you and address it. Because to do it by yourself, if it hasn't worked, it's not going to work. So be honest with yourself. Pick one. That's my challenge for you today, is to pick one. And even if it's something that you don't feel like you're. It's so unhealthy. But maybe it's something with your health, or maybe it's something with food. Maybe it's something with working out something, maybe with your work, your phone, anything. Pick one, commit to it, do something about it, and pick small, productive actions to beat it. Every win's a big win, so don't discount that if you're doing anything like you're trying to keep track of how long you can go resisting something.
