Day 6: Hard to hardened...

Chad Silverstein argues that pain is inevitable in life, and the way to handle it is to build your strength now, literally and figuratively, so you're ready when it hits. Do the hard work today to prepare for tomorrow's struggles.

I think it's Scott Peck. I think that's the book it's from. Or the first line. I think the book is Road Less Traveled. The first line says, life is hard, and, man, life is hard. Although I will say I recently heard something that's really cool that they said if you were in a group with a bunch of people and they all threw all their problems in the middle of the room, you'd run and go get yours. So. So you have to figure out how to. How to embrace your. Your struggles and your pain. Because as you look around the world, as you look around your communities, as you look around your family, your friends, there are people probably dealing with some really hard stuff right now that you don't wish upon your worst enemy. And you have to be blessed every day for the things that you do have. But your problems, your challenges, your obstacles, they are actually the means to figure out how to grow and how to. How to push. You have to struggle in order to grow. The question that comes up is, do you realize and do you accept that pain is inevitable and misery is a choice? Now, I've heard that term for many, many years, but until I really stopped to reflect and write about it and what it meant to me personally, which I'll encourage you to do on your own, I really didn't. I didn't catch it. But in the simplest terms, my melody line is that you're going to experience pain. Pain is coming. It doesn't matter if it's school, your marriage, your kids, your job, your finances, the economy, a war. It does not matter. Pain is coming. And so the question is, do you accept that and are you doing anything to prepare for it? Because if you don't and you ignore it or you're sleepwalking through life, then instead of pain, it's going to be misery, because it's inevitable. And if you ignore doing the hard work today, then you're going to be miserable. The storm's coming, and the time to prepare is now, not when the storm hits. If you wait until you're going through something really hard in life and you feel like that's the time for me to get a coach, that's the time for me to go get therapy, that's the time for me to start doing whatever it is you need to do, it's too late. It's too late. So choose now to do the hard work. And the hard work on this journey is all about building your core. It's the six pack. You may have already heard in the preview or in the introduction or you read about it in the Essential. Again, the melody line of the six pack is that you have a figurative six pack and you have a literal six pack. The literal six pack is going to be right here. We all have one. Whether you can see it or not, whether you've ignored your healthy lifestyle or not, you got one. It's just probably not going to be bulging the way you would want it to be. Your figurative six pack is going to be the same thing as a parallel to this, and it's going to be what's going on internally inside you here. And it's based on your principles and your beliefs and the things that you love, your passions and your purpose. And so developing your six pack is part of the built lead journey that in the first year, it's the most critical thing to do because pain's coming. And for you to be ready to stand strong as you have to endure whatever it is that you're going to endure, whether that's something small or, heaven forbid, a tragedy that happens, which unfortunately happens in people's lives, that you'll be able to endure that pain and get through it strong, especially if you have to be there for other people that you love. Because if you can't even be there for yourself, there's no way you can be there for someone else. So do the hard work now. Choose to do the work now. You know, we say in built to lead, it's your choice, and your choices have consequences. So let us know what you think about that. Which part of the six pack are you going to focus on first? We start with worldview, but it's your choice. Pick one, get going and good luck.
