Day 8: Death...

A short motivational monologue by Chad Silverstein reflecting on the inevitability of death and urging listeners to live with intention to avoid regret. He frames mortality as a motivator to prioritize gratitude, healthy disciplines, and positively impact others, ending with a practical challenge: write what you want people to say about your life and act on it.

So this is generally a topic that most people don't like to talk about. Maybe I'm weird, but I think about it, we're all gonna die, period. It's something that is a reality in our lives. And just because you don't want to talk about it doesn't mean it's not going to happen. And I always say, and I remind myself that your clock is ticking, and it's ticking backwards, declining, decreasing, and you don't know when your last minute is. So you better make the most of your life in the time that you have it, because things can go very quickly and hopefully it doesn't. But that's the reality of the world we live in. You have to remember where you come from, and you have to remember where you're going. And we're all going to the same place. And that's just the reality. And so the question is, are you one of those individuals that never wants to think about it? Are you one of those individuals that maybe hear people talk about it and then you say, well, I don't like to think about that. And I'm not going to judge you for that. I'm just going to tell you my melody line. My melody line is that I do think about it, and I think about making the most of my life. Because one of my biggest fears is looking back at my life and having regrets that I didn't live with with more intention and that I could have done certain things that I should have done. And I know myself well enough to know that I will do that. So I'm trying to live every single day to my fullest. I don't succeed every single day, but more times than not, I'm successful with being able to wake up and be grateful for what I have and work through my disciplines that work well for me, that I've determined through playing with different things and different processes and different things I've enjoyed and things I've had to not enjoy so much but have to do because I knew it was healthy for me physically, spiritually, emotionally. And I think for the most part, I am driven by that fear of regret. I don't want to look back at my life and have regrets that I could have done things in my prime that I chose not to do. And so your challenge in day eight is just to think about it. What do you want said about your life? Write that out, Write that out, Write that out and see what will that look like on paper for you? If you think again, what do you want people to say about you, what do you want to be remembered by? What are you doing in your life that's significant, that's worth remembering? Because the reality is, is that maybe two generations away from you, people won't even remember your name. Your great, great grandkids won't even know who you are. They'll know nothing about you. Which means that nothing you've done in your life ever will, will be as important enough for anyone to remember. And that's a sad reality, but that's. That's the truth. It doesn't mean that you're off the hook, and it doesn't mean that you can't have a huge impact in people's lives. And so the question is, do you want to have that type of impact? My old therapist, his name was Norm, Norm Shub. He passed away with. With a really horrible cancer that caught him quick. And at his funeral, one of his sons said that his dad used to tell everyone that if you're not making other people's lives better, then you're wasting your life. And I definitely have a belief very aligned in that and that thought. And you actually have to have to want to be a good person, and you have to want to grow, and you have to want to have an impact positively in whoever you're connected to and whatever you're doing. And you got to keep in mind that there is a reality that's coming at some point, and you don't know when that is, and ignoring it doesn't change that. So it's something to think about, something to write about, and something you can do something with today, your choice.
