Day 89: Winners...

Chad Silverstein offers a short, spoken reflection on a mantra learned from his builder 'Guru' — shift from 'care too much' vs 'not be careless.' He advises caring about what people think without changing who you are, while avoiding becoming careless and creating unhealthy culture due to overconfidence.
Chapters
I think I share one of my favorite mantras and that one that has a word change that I recently learned from my builder, now Guru. And if you never met Guru and you read his by way of reminders, he's got some insights that are worth pouring into. And one of them was when I was telling him about caring, but not that much care, but not that much, he reminded me about a word change. He, you know, not be careless. So you want to care, but not that much, but you don't want to be careless. I thought that was a cool spin on it because a lot of times you can just write people off because you don't want to care so much, but if you're being careless about it, you can come off like a jerk and you could have the opposite impact that you want to have. So you, you do want to care about the way people think. You do want to care what people think about you. And you want to make sure that you don't care so much that you change who you are. And you don't want to be careless about it, because if you rub people the wrong way and you want to feel really good that you want to be able to take a stand because you're not going to change who you are, that's great. But on your way of doing that, if you create an unhealthy culture around you because you're taking a stand that works against you. And so that's why there's a piece of this that you should care. Don't change who you are, but don't be careless and just run people over because you're really strong and you're becoming built to lead and you know what you believe and you know why, and you want to people in their place because you can. And I think you know when you start to get very confident because you have this aim and you start to really know who you are, it could be a dangerous place to live to be careless. So what word changes do you have to make and which ones are your favorites? They're all scattered and littered throughout this entire book. So hopefully you can share a couple and hopefully we'll share some more with you as we move forward.
