Day 99: Edge, execution, excellence...

A short group conversation led by Chad Silverstein about leadership growth: as leaders climb they face harder tests, increased scrutiny, and new team dynamics that can expose former strengths as liabilities. The speakers emphasize the need to pivot, adapt habits and communication as teams scale, and maintain humility so an "edge" doesn’t become a detriment.

The one thing I've learned about having a growth mindset is that the higher you climb, the harder you're going to fall.
That's so true. And the more times you're going to.
Fall because you keep climbing, so you.
Keep taking chances, you keep working towards growing as a leader, and you're going.
To get hit harder.
But the nuance that I've learned is.
That the tests get harder, Meaning that.
If you are growing in your system and you have more people around you.
You have more eyes on you, which.
Means that you're literally under a microscope.
Everything you do, everything you say.
Whereas when you had 10 people around you, it didn't matter as much and.
People didn't care and they knew you better.
But when you start to grow your team and you start to have people.
Who don't know you so well, the trust isn't there.
Then they're going to take things the wrong way. You're going to have half the room here one thing, half the room here another thing.
So your edge could be your biggest detriment if you're not careful.
The way that you used to do.
Things may not work so well anymore.
Because you have to pivot. And because you're so good at what.
You do, it's hard sometimes to see.
Where you need to pivot.
And so as you constantly evolve and.
Grow as a leader, you have to.
Be on the lookout for where your confidence is going to get you in.
Trouble, where your competence is going to get you in trouble, where you have.
Built these disciplines and you've gotten so good at doing certain things may have.
Worked so well three years ago when your team was here, but now that your team is there, it requires you to adapt and not change who you are, but maybe change some of the.
Nuances of how you get things done.
And having an awareness of the fact.
That you have all different types of individuals around you that learn on different.
Levels, that have different perceptions and perspectives.
And.
Don'T see things the way you see them.
And the more people you have, the.
More that's going to kind of surface itself and rear its ugly head. And you have to be really careful.
Because your edge as a high performer.
May have gotten you to this place where you feel like you're in a.
Really good place, but it may not be the thing that can sustain you, and you might have to build an edge in somewhere else.
So.
Again, humility is the key.
It's why it's the second essential in our playbook.
After the build in the core, you.
Got to always remember that you can always get better.
There's no arriving.
And don't let the edge be something.
That kind of ends up working against you.
