Chapters
You need people that believe in your mission and they know your belief system, and they buy into your belief system. They know you're authentic, and they know that what you're trying to build is an authentic way. When you do things that way, people just help build. To lead really made me look inside more. It's made me better in every way. A better father, a better husband, a better coach. I don't know how you could come to a deeper understanding of yourself when you're not even aware of yourself. If you're only measuring yourself in your times of great moments, if that's the measure of your existence and that's the value, you're going to be awfully lonely. There's plenty of coaches that win lots of championships and their marriages fall apart and their kids are struggling. There are people that have been incredibly successful with business and they're alone on their deathbed. You got to know who you are. You've got to know what you believe. Otherwise, things get upside down fast. From a heavenly standpoint, a godly standpoint, it's to be what God intended you to be, whatever that is. And typically, that's going to be something you love. Put yourself in the toughest situations you can as often as you can. Learn that struggle is good for you, and learn that tension is good for you, and learn that stress can be really healthy for you. And know that during the workout, that's your objective. And when you're out of the workout, let it go and then do it again the next day. Wrestling can consume me if I let it, but in my calendar, I have things that are just more important than wrestling. Like, I love to talk to my daughter. So every week I know I'm going to talk to her. Like, I'm going to talk to her. And I make sure I get to those things. Otherwise, I'm only doing the things I need to do and not things I love to do. Build to Lead makes things very palatable. Things are taught in a way that, to me, they're very easy to digest and learn. It's turned my world upside down in a really good way. It's helped my team. We're still using build to lead. There's always a chance for improvement, and I love that about build to lead. It's endless learning.
