I know people who work crazy hours. I've done it myself. When you work at a job and you pour yourself into that job and you work crazy hours, it can pay some pretty nice dividends, whether that be through income, whether it be through a promotion and for a position. It's a great investment to work really hard at your job, but it doesn't even come close to working on yourself. Personal development, working on yourself, figuring out who you are, what you believe, how you want to live your life, what you want to aim at pays off 10 times the amount of dividends that working at your job will do.
