Chase Fisher describes a day when six crises hit at once: his mom, his girlfriend, a business post failing, partner issues, constant calls. Exhausted and ready to quit, he drank a White Monster and NeuroGum, then reframed it all as a resilience test. His anchor: the emotional why behind starting his business. Without it, any discomfort makes you quit. With it, nothing can.

My mom called me with a problem. My girlfriend called me complaining. One of my businesses isn't going to get one of the posts out tonight. I've had one meal. My business partner's having problems. 3 hours straight I'm on calls and things aren't going well. People are complaining. And I wanted to give up so bad for the day. I just want to sit down and say I'm not feeling good. I'm feeling scarce. I'm feeling like I don't have a ton. But what would I be if I just sat there in my bed and said, you know what, I'm done for the day, fuck all these problems, just said I'm done? But instead, I got up, popped a White Monster, got a NeuroGum in my mouth. I feel better than ever. And it was so obvious that this was a test. Problem after problem after problem, like 6 problems in a row. And I was naive enough to think that this wasn't a test. This sound crazy, it might sound psycho. I'm just getting tested and more problems are going to keep coming up and I'm just going to keep handling them. The rest of the day is going to be a battle. I might be up until 4 AM handling all these problems, but you know what, I'm grateful I get to do it because I know in the end it's all going to work out. I can handle all these problems and it's probably things that I've caused and that I can fix, but it all came back to my emotional why. Why do I even do this in the first place? That why that you have is not something that is emotionally connected to you and that really makes you emotionally tick. Feels like your whole life is falling apart. That why doesn't come in to save you, you are giving up. If you know why you even started trying to do something hard in the first place, nothing, and I mean nothing, can make you give up. So focus on yourself, self. Focus on the why, because if you don't know why you're doing it, when something gets even moderately uncomfortable, you are just gonna give up.
