David Joseph Craig reflects on growing up during a plague and the survivor's guilt that followed. He considers how faster research could have saved more lives, and what it meant to live through something that killed so many around him.
This whole plague and their fight happened while I was in my adolescence. If people were dying and it only happened in a year and a half, and then some, you know, some sort of AIDS research happened a lot quicker, how many more people we would have been able to see, have longer lives and inspire me and inspire us to keep going and to have a, a much more rich, fulfilling life. Because also, also, the people who did survive have survival's guilt, you know, have survivor's guilt. So, yeah, we lost a lot of great.
