The whole sport. Even more than greed, which is there's a lot of greed in boxing. It's a venal sport, it's corrupt sport. But the whole thing, the engine, the real fuel, is ego. You're not just dealing with the fighter's insecurities and the fighter's craziness that he's bringing his whole past in there, but you're dealing with that fighter's ego because it takes an incredible amount of vanity, balls, courage, whatever you want to call it, to get up, take those steps up into the ring where you're, again, essentially naked. There are actually three protagonists here. It's you, it's the other guy, and there's the audience. And that's where the ego comes in. What I find consistently what fighters fear a lot more than physical violence or harm is humiliation, is being seen as a chump.
