Author Chris Colfer describes the primary goals of the second Roswell Johnson book: to give kids an exciting, humorous space adventure and to inspire curiosity about science. He also highlights a central life lesson of this installment — learning that sometimes you must let people go without it meaning you or they are bad — and frames this as an emotional takeaway for young readers.
What is the takeaway from Roswell Johnson Saves the Galaxy? My number one priority, especially with the Roswell Johnson series, because this is the second one in the series, is just for kids to have an amazing adventure with some funny, wacky characters in space. I hope they walk away with a love and curiosity for science. For this one in particular, I hope, I hope they realize that sometimes in life there are people you just have to let go. And it doesn't mean you don't love them. It doesn't mean that you're a bad person. It doesn't mean that they're a bad person. There are just people you have to let go and it's okay.
