This is a short transcript of a YouTube conversation (Chris Collins interviewing Jamie) about equine body work/dentistry and business communication. Jamie, an Australian equine bodyworker who also does dentistry, describes challenges where multiple practitioners have tried to help a poorly managed horse and communication with clients and vets breaks down. Chris models upfront client-framing language: he tells clients he is not for everyone, emphasizes that clients are buying results (not feelings), and that he focuses on behaviors/actions that produced outcomes rather than clients' emotions. The exchange includes practical phrasing Jamie plans to use (warning clients he may annoy others) and the core message: align on common goals and prioritize actionable changes to get results.

Hi, Jamie.
Hey, Chris. Thanks for taking my call. How you doing?
I'm amazing. You're in Australia?
Yes, sir. I do equine body work. Dentistry. I used to be a barrier and I work with veterinarians to, you know, for horses and doing right performance wise, we get them back up and running in.
Kind of like. Like just asking about, like, systems. Better systems of communication, like communicating with clients better. Because I'm basically the technician, the manager, and the owner.
Yeah. So give me an example of when communication breaks down for you.
Okay. With me, it's.
Okay. You go into work on this horse. Several people have attempted to get it better or a different team. And we've gone in there and then how to, you know, the client's gone. Well, so and so and so and so has worked on this horse. This is what they've done. And we can immediately see like you were the business, that it was the wrong way.
What I like to do with clients is I like to tell them up front and kind of recap who I am, how people misunderstand me sometimes and then what the goal is. So I might say to a potential client, I'm not for everybody. When somebody hires me, I'm expecting that we're going to do whatever it takes to get the result. The result here that I understand that you're looking for is you need to go from losing money to making money. You have to understand that the habits that you have got you to that point, and I'm gonna make you admit that you're fat or that your kid is ugly, because until you do that, we're not gonna be able to move forward. And you're gonna take everything personal. And this isn't personal. I take what I do very seriously. And what I'm gonna try to do with you comes from a place of love and me caring. But the situation requires us changing our habits, our speed of change, our approach to things. It requires a lot of things to change, which are hard. And sometimes I can be short and come off is. I don't care. But the truth of the matter is, is I'm trying to respect the fact that you're hiring me to get a result because I have. People get very intimidated by me. I do get kind of loud sometimes, and I get excited about things. I also don't have a lot of patience for people to tell me all the wrong things, you know, that don't matter. Because, you know, in business, business problems are easy. And they hire me to come in and fix a business problem, but then they Tell me their feelings and I'm not interested in their feelings. I'm interested in what were the actions that you took, what are the behaviors that created this outcome and how do we do the opposite of that, of that to get a better outcome.
Like, I've got a new client coming up in a week or so. It's a very well known horse in my opinion. Been pretty mismanaged and like I said, like you nailed it right out of the bat. I'm just going to walk, walk in and that's how I frame it. It's like, look, okay, I'm going to tell you right now, I am not, like you said, I'm not everyone's cup of tea. That's more of an Aussie way of saying it, I guess. I.
I'm here to get this horse better.
Some things I'm going to say are going to annoy you. They're going to piss you off. I'm going to piss your veterinarian off. I'm going to piss your barrier off. But.
You called me. It's well known issues and you know the reason you're calling me is we need to get a result. You're not buying a service, you're buying a result.
That's really good. Now just tighten it up a little bit because you're kind of going into feelings a little bit. But so maybe started off with something to the effect of you. You are hiring me because I have a reputation for being able to fix things that nobody else has been able to fix. Let's understand that our common goal here, and use the, use the term common goal. Our common goal here is this horse performing at the highest level.
