Gina Gershon describes a childhood staring contest with a cat that wouldn't back down, using it to explain AlphaPussy: a refusal to yield or be victimized. She argues that maintaining unwavering focus and dominance in interactions, especially with men, is how you claim personal sovereignty.
You know, a little male cat, they will wreak havoc on your life. You know, they'll bite you, they'll claw at you, they'll ruin your furniture. So at a very early age, I made up this game where I would stare at them and they would stare at me and we'd just have this staring contest. And I'm telling you, if I looked away, they would attack me for real. And they're strong. But you don't look away. You stare, stare. And after a while they'll go, "Meow." and they roll on their back, therefore they submit, and then I've become the alpha pussy. So you must become the alpha pussy, else you'll be victimized. There's a connection to all of it. It's just about having agency and sovereignty.
