A short YouTube video (uploaded by Chris Collins on Sept 26, 2024) in which Harry Soo recounts how his BBQ team got the name "Slap Yo Daddy." In this excerpt he says he entered a contest in Palm Springs, wrote "Slap yo daddy" on the application as a joke suggested by coworkers, intended it as a one-time name, then unexpectedly won the contest.
And I signed up for a contest in Palm Springs and I brought in a little application form with the little, you know, application information. They said hey, what did you call your team name? I said, oh, I called you after the movie the Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. So here. No, no, no, let's have fun with you Harry. Let's name your team for you. So I said fine, I don't care. I'm just going to do it one time only. And they decided, my co workers from the south. So when you eat something you like, you want to slap somebody.
So they say you are a daddy. Why don't you call it slap your daddy? I said, Daddy' stupidest name on earth that I can think of. But to humor you, just for fun, kicks and giggles, I'm just going to do one cottage mums ring, get my bucket list done. I'm happy. So I wrote down Slap yo daddy on my application form, planning to just use it one time. Guess what happens? I go to the contest, I have no idea what I'm doing, I win it just like that.
