How To Crush Your Goals-- Guaranteed (Service Drive Revolution Drive By)

Chris Collins and Christian break down how to actually hit ambitious goals: budget your sacrifices upfront, get a coach, commit daily effort, plan for more pain than you expect, and bring your spouse into it. They use trapeze metaphors and business stories to show why luck doesn't work.

Welcome, everybody, to this edition of A Christmas Drive By.
I like.
Have you ever done a Christmas drive by before?
First timer.
Say hello to Christian.
Hi, everybody.
It's a Christian holiday. It is.
Did Santa bring you everything that you want?
Yes. I. I wasn't really looking for a lot from Santa, but I got what I needed.
I don't need anything.
I probably have to be the hardest person to buy gifts for.
You are a pain in the butt.
Yeah. Because I have everything that I need, and I don't. I have odd taste.
Yes. You don't have a rocket ship yet.
But what we're going to talk about today is how to guarantee hitting your goals in 2021.
Guarantee. I guarantee if you do this and you're honest, you will hit your goals in 2021.
Now, I believe that a lot of people doing New Year's resolutions, kind of like a horoscope or like a, hey, I want to win the lottery, or. But they're not really committed to the goals. But if you write a lofty goal, like, let's say you want. You want to increase your sales by 50%. So you're doing $2 million a year, and you want to do 3 million.
Right.
You got to do this one thing.
So the one thing is you have to budget how much you're willing to sacrifice to hit that goal. And I think that's the thing that most people miss, is they talk about their goal, but they don't build in the pain and anguish and commitment and disappointment and heartbreak that goes along with.
Having lofty goals or they drastically underestimate. It is also a possibility.
So let's just. Let's just make up some. Some crazy goal here to illustrate what it is I'm trying to say. So let's say Christian decides. What would you. Let's say Christian decides he wants to be in Cirque du Soleil. What would be something in Cirque du Soleil that you would want to do? So Cirque du Soleil is this French circus that's kind of reinvented how it's done modern. Really hard to get into. People can, like, put their knees behind their head kind of a thing, and they're acrobatic.
Yeah. So. So what would be trapeze artist.
Okay, so let's say Christian wants to be a trapeze artist in Cirque du Soleil. So what's the first thing that Christian is going to need to do? He's budgeting. What. What is his plan? What is he willing to pay to get there. So the first thing I'm going to say is you're going to need a coach. Like our, our mutual acquaintance Matt is going to run 100 mile marathon in Illinois, by the way, this summer. What do you think the first thing is that we talked about he needed.
To do, to do that, he needs a trainer, he needs a coach. Yep.
So you're going to need somebody who understands Cirque du Soleil, that knows all the ins and outs. Because you're not going to want to train for something that you don't understand or you know you want. You want somebody who's going to teach you the best.
Path to get to where you want. So you're gonna need a coach.
That's right.
And then how many hours a day are you willing to work out.
Practicing to this? Because I mean, as you sit here right now, you do not look like a trapeze artist.
Nope. There are not a lot of 200 pound trapeze artists in Cirque du Soleil.
So are you gonna, in a year's time, if your goal is to do this by the end of next year, are you gonna work out an hour in a year?
Hypothetically, I'm going to say it's going to be four hours a day.
Four hours a day. Okay, now you say four hours a day. There's going to be a lot of pain, there's going to be a lot of days. You're going to want to hit the snooze button, you're going to pull a muscle, you're going to stub a toe.
Probably break an arm.
It is not going to be easy. I can just tell you that. Now, it would be naive for you to go into that thinking it would be easy. But a lot of people make goals and then they think, oh well, this is going to be easy. You know, I'm so good looking, everything just falls in my lap. No, it's gonna be hard. It's gonna be really hard. Okay.
Yep.
So you're gonna need a trapeze. How much does that cost?
I don't know. I did, I looked on Amazon. There are no trapezes on for sale on Amazon.
You could buy a house on Amazon. What are you talking about?
Somewhere there's a trapeze.
Yeah, but I don't know. What do you guys, 10 grand?
Yeah.
For the whole, you're need a place to put it. So you're gonna put it in our warehouse. So what are you gonna do?
Yeah, I gotta have a location for sure.
So every time we go in the warehouse to get books or whatever. Christian's gonna be in there bouncing keys. We have to duck under it to get to the books and stuff. Right.
Probably have a safety net.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Because it's a concrete floor.
Yeah.
I mean, it's gonna. It's not gonna happen by mistake.
There would be no snapping the fingers and instantly trapeze artist.
So if you want to hit your goals in 20, 21, stop pretending like they're gonna happen and you're gonna get lucky and sit down for a couple minutes and commit. What are you will. What price are you willing to pay? What are you willing to invest? How dedicated are you? Because let's be honest. If you were really dedicated and nothing was going to stop you, you would hit your goals. But you get discouraged because you try something and it doesn't go right. And then somebody tells you that, oh, that's not the right thing to do, or you're greedy or stupid or dumb or whatever for having that goal. And then your spouse is like, why aren't you home? And everybody just kind of undoes all that. And you weren't committed to begin with because you hadn't sat down and said, nope, no matter what, this is what I'm going to do. And then, you know, one thing you might want to do if you. If you have a spouse or a significant other is involve them in the conversation. I don't know how many times service managers are like, oh, my spouse, I'm not home, or whatever. And I sit them both down and I'm like, you guys are a power couple. What is it you want to accomplish together? And they make their goals together. And then the spouse can say, oh, you're not home, or whatever, because it's more like, oh, did you do this thing today? How's it going? What are your numbers? Involve them in the. In the goal, in the process. You're not alone. It's not you versus the world. If you have a spouse, that's a support system, right?
Yeah, for sure. Should be the. Should be the teammate, the person propping you up a little bit. For sure. Yeah. I think the other thing. And you said this when we've talked in past conversations, not only do you have to plan for the pain, you have to plan for whatever pain you think it's going to be, plus some. Right. Double. Like, there's a multiplier that's on top of there. And then I would also say, as someone like, so I've had a little bit of success with this with committing to something. It's weird. I don't know why I do, but I usually do it at the end of the year planning going into the next year. What I've noticed, and this might sound a little bit crazy, like, it takes a little bit for the universe to realize that you're serious about what you're doing. So it'll mess with you going into it. Like, the first couple, three months, it'll be harder than you think it's going to be. And then what happens is you start to get momentum going the other way. Instead of feeling like things are fighting you, stuff start to work in your favor. And that's when it kind of gets a little bit fun to me.
Yeah. And I think the more you do that, the more you just anticipate that. And it doesn't even affect you.
Yep.
You know, it's. You know, you know it's going to be hard.
Yeah. You welcome it.
I had somebody the other day, they're like, oh, you got this great idea for an app, and I want you to sign an NDA and, you know, whatever. And I was just like, first of all, I don't want to hear about your app. I'm not investing in an app. And second of all, it's not a new idea, even though you think it is. But the truth of the matter is, is the best you could hope for in this person's situation is that you sell that idea to somebody because you don't have the money that it takes to go out and not only build an app, because it's gonna cost you a lot to build it. And then once it's built, that's when your problems start. But people think, oh, I build an app, and all of a sudden people are gonna come running from everywhere to buy your app. You're one of a million apps out there that nobody cares about. Now you gotta promote your app, and you barely had enough money to build your app, and you thought just building it was gonna get you there. And that's what happens all the time in business, is you thought, oh, just showing up. I was going to get there. No, that's just. You got to enjoy the journey and the pain and the challenge and the fight. That's where you have to get your reward, because you're not going to put your feet up on a desk and say, I won life. It just doesn't happen that way. You got to enjoy the fight, the challenge, like, that's part of the fun. Honestly, there's no.
That's where all. All the growth happens. Yeah. Yeah. Happens in the trenches.
So that's how you can hit your goals. I think it's a really, really powerful tool if you take it to heart and you're honest. It requires you being honest with yourself to do that. And heavy stuff to be dropping on people on Christmas, huh?
Yeah. But great time. This is a year of new beginnings.
You're hiding in your garage listening to this. Hiding from the mother in law or whatever you're doing, like trying to decide.
When you can eat a little bit of the turkey even though it's not done yet.
