Joey Graceffa grew up dreading weekends with his dad, who was sports-focused while Joey felt more feminine. At fifteen, his father came to see him perform the lead role in a school play. Watching Joey on stage changed everything, and his dad finally accepted him.
But my parents were divorced when I was like 5, so I would spend every other weekend with my dad and then the rest of the time with my mom. So I kind of always dreaded having to go spend time with him. I also like have like a feminine energy. He's a very masculine man, so didn't relate to him. He was just this like, why aren't you playing sports type of dad? So eventually, did that end? It did. How old were you? I was, I think, around like 15. I got the lead role in my school play and my dad came and like saw me on stage for the first time and was like, okay, I get it. And he doesn't have to be exactly who I wanted him to be. And he like saw me in my own light. And since then everything changed and he accepted me. And it was a good change to our relationship.
