Lessons From Bruce Lee - Part 1 (Service Drive Revolution Drive By)

Chris Collins starts a series on Bruce Lee's wisdom, opening with a quote about truth that can't be organized. He argues against filing problems away and shows how to act directly on them, using auto-service examples like walk-arounds and inspections.

Welcome everybody to Service Drive Revolution and your Friday drive by. Something to think about going into the weekend that's going to make you better come Monday. Ideas, strategies. And so I'm going to do a series here that I'm. That I.
Am really excited about. We're going to talk about Bruce Lee's wisdom and knowledge. And so we're going to go deep on some quotes from Bruce Lee, because I think Bruce Lee stands for a lot of different things. When you mix performance with athletics, with martial arts, it's mental, it's physical, it's practice, it's pushing through when it gets hard. And he, you know, accomplished some amazing things through a lot of adversity. And I think there's a lot here for us to talk about together and to learn. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to read a thought or a quote from Bruce Lee and then I'm going to tell you how I interpret it or how it inspires me. So the first one that I have here, let me put on my glasses because I can't see hardly at all without them. It's actually, I just can't read. I can see just fine.
So get ready for this. This is heady stuff. So Bruce Lee said, you can't organize truth. You can't organize truth. That's like trying to put a pound of water into wrapping paper and shaping it. You can't organize truth. That's like trying to put a pound of water into wrapping paper and shaping it. And what I take away from this is that you can't file the truth for later. You can't procrastinate on the truth. The truth doesn't get better like wine. It gets worse. It rots. That's what happens when we. When you try to file the truth. The truth needs to be addressed immediately. You need to attack the truth. You need to be honest about the truth, and you need to swallow that pill right now, not later. What happens, I think with us a lot of times is we see somebody doing something and we let it slide and we don't address it right away. Like let's say, for example, we have a service advisor that doesn't do a walk around or a technician that doesn't inspect a car or has a comeback and we just kind of let it go. But what happens over time is when you file truth away, it doesn't get better and nothing gets better. You got to attack that. You can't ignore the results in the truth. You got to go after it right away. And so think about a couple things that you let slide that you shouldn't let slide. Maybe it's something that you're doing with yourself. Maybe you're procrastinating on cleaning out your garage or your office. Maybe you're procrastinating on having a conversation with somebody you should have. Maybe you need to change a pay plan. Maybe you need to create a new menu. The truth is that isn't going to get better. And you're costing yourself a lot of money by not doing that menu or not addressing that. You're costing yourself a lot of energy and, and, you know, bad, bad motivation in your head because things are disorganized and they're not organized. Think about how good you would feel if you got that done and attack it. So let me read the quote one more time. This time I'm gonna read it without my glasses. You can't organize truth. That's like trying to put a pound of water into wrapping paper and shaping it. So what could you do? What could you attack? And go do it.
Now do me a favor and stay tuned for a preview of what's coming up. Next week on Service Drive Revolution.
Next week on Service Drive Revolution. Today we are talking about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I'm Chris Collins, and this is the CEO of NASA in the Westminster dog show, Christian Lafferty.
I hear the voice in my head.
Go around the office and beg somebody to drive you to pick up your car. You know all my friends that have Amex black cards, they like, they can't wait to pull it out. Does this guy have naked pictures of you? If you knew how bad you sucked and how good I turned out, that would be funny.
That's crazy what our business was like in the 90s and 80s.
Oh, the blow, the cocaine.
That's what the parts department was for.
We missed that whole thing. Were you in on that?
No.
I love it.
