Shawn Johnson talks about moving from elite gymnastics to motherhood, noting that winning Olympic medals didn't teach her how to raise kids. She expects her children might inherit athletic talent but stays open to whatever they choose, even if it's something she doesn't understand yet.
I'm no longer a professional athlete. I need to learn how to be a good parent. And I think a lot of the things that I'm very, very good at don't work in parenting.
What are the chances one of your kids want to be a professional athlete?
It's looking to be pretty strong, unfortunately.
Really? Yeah. Is it in the genes?
Yeah. There's one of them where I'm like, ugh, okay.
Will you encourage that or will you—
I think it's my job to. I think God has hidden treasures in all of us. And I think it's our adventure of life to try to go find them. But if you find them, you got to protect them.
Okay. What if one of your kids wanted to be a professional video game player?
That would be a fresh one. I'd need to read some books on that. Need to know where that's going to end up in life.
