Short monologue from a YouTube video in which the speaker (Mike Drucker) lists and briefly comments on five favorite books/works. Mentioned items in this chunk: Stories of Your Life (Ted Chiang); an unnamed/uncertain comic (verbatim fragment: "But It's Beneath the Trees where Nobody Sees"); the Murderbot series (Martha Wells); The Sorrows of Young Werther (Goethe); and My Work is Not Yet Done (Thomas Ligotti). The tone is conversational and anecdotal, with personal notes (e.g., wrote a grad thesis on Werther; saw the Murderbot show trailer).

Give me your top five book recommendations. Oh, that's tough because I have so many. Let's see. Stories of your Life by Ted Chiang was actually on my list of maybe to pitch as a life changing book before I went with Sayaka Murata's book. So. Stories of youf Life by Ted Chang. I'm reading this comic book now and I swear to God I'm loving it. But I'm gonna miss say the Word, But It's Beneath the Trees where Nobody Sees, I believe it's called, which is almost like a mixture of Dexter and Paddington. It is an insane comic, but it's so good. I would say that. I would say I've been reading the Murderbot books. Cause I saw the trailer for the show and I like Martha Wells, but I've never read the Murderbot books. Awesome. Super funny. Let's see. I would say just cause I wrote a thesis on it in grad school. The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe. I had to write an entire grad thesis on it. So I'm gonna recommend it. And then I would say.

He writes almost like. When I say nightmare, I don't mean in the sense of it's scary or it's bad, but almost like waking up in a strange situation in which you feel lost and don't know everything that's happening. And he has this amazing book that's almost My Work is not Yet Done that is almost like a horror version of Severance, but came out long, long before that. So sort of set in an office, but just this sort of creeping weird horror that just gets under your skin. I.
