ND Stevenson shares a letter from a Christian author who told them that loving God doesn't forbid loving other things. The author said loving God can include loving your passions, which helped Stevenson reconcile attending church with always thinking about their own stories.

This time on books that changed my life. The author, as far as I'm aware, is a Christian. I actually wrote him an email once because I was consumed with guilt that I was in church all the time, and I don't think I ever paid attention to a single sermon. I was always thinking of my own stories in my head. I was like, what do you do? How do you do it? If you're like, you know, how do you both be a good Christian and how, how do you write your story? How can you do both? And he wrote me a really, really thoughtful email back and I treasured it so much. What did he say? I think he very gently pointed out a bit of a fallacy in the question itself was that if I loved God, I could not love anything else. And what he said was that if you really love something that is loving God, God wants you to love things. And I found that really comforting at the time.
