Night Drop Or Warranty?

Chris Collins presents a choice between handling a night-drop emergency (a Volkswagen Vanagon with a wheel that fell off from loose lug nuts) or writing warranty paperwork for a car one day out of warranty. He argues the emergency is the chance to become the customer's hero.

Chris. Joan, Would you rather.
Write up a night drop that ends up being a comeback for an advisor that's no longer there? The tech is still there, but the advisor's gone.
On a Volkswagen Vanigan that the tech left lug nuts loose and the wheel came off the driving on the freeway. Wow. So it was towed in on. On the weekend on Sunday. And it's sitting there on a. On a jack. There's three wheels on it. It's missing a. The wheel jumped the median. There's a lot going on there. And it's a. So it's a night. It's a freaking vanigan too. You have to call the customer. Would you rather do that or write a 20 line warranty RO on a car that's one day out of warranty, but they made the appointment a week ago?
Wow. So a 20 line warranty ro and they're one day out of warranty, but they made the appointment a week ago. Those are both flaming piles of doo doo. Like, I love it. Which would you rather have?
Just imagine the face of that tech when he gets that 20, 20 line RO. Yeah.
I really think I'm good at this. Yeah. These haven't been clear cut. It's definitely been the lesser of two evils. I tell you what I think.
I think I'm taking the Vanagon. Really? Yeah. But come back for a different advisor. Yeah. Wheel came off. Yep. Because it's my opportunity as the advisor to become the hero. Could you. I know you never wrote service for Volkswagen, but you. You were a manager. I manage Volkswagen. But you probably didn't write up a lot of Vanagons, did you? We had a technician that specialized in it. People would bring their Vanagons from all over the country and have them work on them. You know what the greatest thing is about Vanagon's? The water cooler lines. So the radiators in the back. All the way to the back. That's right. They leak. They leak instant. Those are the greatest. And I think they're like six hours or something to do. Yeah, they're definitely quirky little buggers. So the Vanagon. Yeah, I'll take the Vanagon. Cause you're getting into a situation where since the advisor left already, then you get to kind of take over and get the fresh start. So. So you're thinking you'd make a friend. I would absolutely make a friend out of the whole deal. Thanks so much for watching this clip of Service Driver Revolution.
