Q & A | Clever New Service Marketing Ideas You Must Steal

A Chris Collins Q&A video (Feb 9, 2024) where a caller from south of Dallas asks how to quickly fill his service drive now that his shop can same-day diagnose and repair. Chris and guests recommend starting with CRM outreach using prebuilt "pit stop" templates to contact existing customers, running Instagram/Facebook ads with headlines promoting "same day" or "immediate availability," and using geofencing around competing dealers to push targeted ads. They also suggest leveraging the message for recruitment and advise persistence while tuning ad algorithms. Closing includes CTAs (8333 Ask SDR and offers.chriscollinsinc.com).

If you have a question, that's 8333 Ask SDR. And if we play your question on the big show, you get a swag bag. Some pretty cool stuff. Okay, let's go to this week's question.
I've been invariable for 30 plus years and fixed for only 8 on the GM of the store. We've been struggling for techs. I've been watching your videos a lot. I now have four level three techs, two b minus techs, a couple helpers. I understand. I'm watching your unapplied labor. So the helpers may not be the best of things, but I'm able now and I'm the only shop in the, in, in the, in the Dallas area, south of Dallas to be able to bring your car in and service it and diagnose it on the same day and be able to do it. Nobody else can do that. I got a diesel guy that can take a motor out and put a motor in in a day. I got transmission people, I got heavy line, I got everything I could ever need. But the problem is for so many years, for a while we haven't been able to do any of that. We've been a week out, two weeks out, three weeks out. But now I'm able to do everything on the same day. What's a great way to load the service tribe to fill it up to get people in there who picked up an eight hour job today. Finally just for saying yes, bring it in today. When he was told by everybody in the area at a 40 mile radius, it's going to be a week before we can look at you. So we're going to build that reputation. I know it might take some time. What are some great avenues to be able to fill the service drive and get the work in? I can handle any work they give me as long as I get the parts.
Great question. So a couple, couple things that I would do. The first thing is in our on demand we have a thing called the pit stop sequence which is.
Pre done templates for you to reach out to the, you know, to your current database. So I would start with the current database. The cool thing about the pit stop is you don't have to be due for an oil change. You basically are just using the seasonalities to get people in. So I would start with that and that if you start those and you, and you set it up in your CRM to consistently go out to people that haven't been in, in a year or whatever you set the criteria, you'll, you, you know, depending on your database, you'll get 5 to 10 a week pretty, pretty quickly on that. So I would advise that. I'm not sure. Is he on our own demand? Do we know?
I don't think he said one way or another.
Well, you should get, I don't know, you should get in our coaching group, frankly, reach out to info Chris Collins inc.com and hop on a strategy session with Christian and go through that because we could, you know, we could help you with that. The next part is I would start advertising on probably Instagram and Facebook and I would get really good at that and I would make the headline like, you know, immediate availability, check engine lights, everything. But I would start doing marketing on there and then.
Can I take that one level further?
Maybe do the car doctor clinic too.
Car doctor, traffic clinics, great. But you know what I mean, the summer, you know what I would do? I would geofence other dealers and then do the message of same day.
Yeah. Say, explain that to him.
Yeah. So there's a, there's a way that essentially that there's this big data in the world with your Facebook and your Instagram that you can, and Google and Google and you can purchase basically an advertising opportunity anyone goes with. Anytime someone goes within a certain geographic area and it's so specific, it's down to like 50ft. Where if something's pulling into another Chrysler store, you can send, you can push an advertisement to their Facebook. It is that specific. And if you advertise same day appointments, you'll get people to turn around and leave that place and come to you. Because most your average Chrysler tour is over three weeks booked out. So if you can do it all the same day and get your diagnosis and all that stuff done, you have the biggest competitive advantage. I would also take that, is I would use that for recruiting. If you're trying to add more techs, like the fact that you guys are not booked out two months is a huge advantage both in the marketplace and in the employment base.
So the one thing I would say about that, that sort of advertising is it's going to take you a couple months to get good at it. The algorithms don't start to work for like three or four days. And so it isn't like, hey, I put it up, I spent $100. Nobody came in give up. It's, you know, fine tune it.
And so I spend more at first. But with all the tests you spend.
They have AI that'll figure it out if I stick with it.
So.
And they'll help you to Facebook and Google will help you. They have great tutorials and all of that. But especially on Instagram, you can jump, you can jump right on it. So that's what I would do.
