Let's go to this week's question.
Hey, guys. My name is Justin. I just recently discovered you guys not too long ago. I started my career a couple years ago as a service technician at an RV dealership. I recently moved over to service writing, and I've recently accepted a position at a Ford dealership as a service writer in Quicklane. So I'm wondering what is the best thing I can do on day one to make a good impression and make friends with techs and service advisors so that I have a great start? So if you have one tip for the first day on the job, what would it be? I've already got your book. It's on the way. Hopefully it'll arrive before I start next week, and I'd love to hear back from you.
All right, Justin, I got just the thing for you on day one. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to take a toothbrush. I want you to file it down so it's really sharp on both sides, like a shank. And I want you to walk up to the biggest, meanest person in the department and. And get him in the side. That's how you get respect.
No, no, no, no, no, Justin, don't, don't. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. People are crazy enough to do that. Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
I learned that from watching prison doctor.
Take it back. Tell them.
You take it back, Justin. Maybe not the toothbrush.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Don't in prison say, justin, I'm sorry. This isn't prison.
Justin, I'm sorry, this isn't prison.
In no way, shape, or form does service drive revolution, condone violence, or abuse of dental care products.
Or shanking.
Or shanking.
Yeah, okay. No way to clear that up.
Jesus, Louise, I can't take you anywhere. Boy, this is an easy one, Justin. I feel like just the energy and, like, I don't know, the kind of.
Vibe I get from you. I would say the first thing is just be yourself.
Oh, he's on an upward trajectory is everything. I heard that was so great.
Seem like a Guy I'd want to hang out with. And then.
Just be yourself. And then I would. I would say number two is just genuinely be interested in people. Introduce yourself. You know, listen more than you talk and have some empathy and.
That'S it. Like.
And do that with fun.
Do that with your co workers and the customers.
Yeah, you're gonna be great. The one thing I find that people coming from the RV world to the. To the dealer world and just cars is that it's way simpler. RV's complex. Like, if you figure that thing out, he's gonna be in really good shape. I'm pretty excited. Maybe future leader, manager, you mean a.
House on wheels is more complicated than a car?
Believe it or not, there's a lot going on in those things, like 14 different warranties. And the amount of stuff that can break on an RV is just below.
Do you know that just after I buy those Jet Skis, those fancy jet skis, they come out with one that's faster?
Yeah, you told me that before. I'm pretty excited.
I'm so upset about that.
Oh, yeah.
Like how. What should the trade cycle be on a Jet Ski? Three years?
Ten?
No, not ten. No way. Three. Let's say it's three.
Okay.
What do I do? Should I get three? Should I get the faster one?
What, are you in year two? Yeah, I was in 22.
We only had them. I had them for one season.
Okay.
Which was the season you came and drove them.
Indented it. Yeah.
Yeah. When you dented mine, you hit me. Let's just call it like it is.
But there's a possibilities that somebody on the lake will have one faster than me.
I don't know. I didn't see a lot of people going faster than you.
Justin, just be yourself. That's the answer, bro. Be yourself. Empathy.
I like that thing you said about ask a lot of questions. Yeah.
Just listen. Don't. Don't try to impose your will on anybody. Just listen. When you ask somebody how, you know, say, hey, I'm Justin. How's it going? Be sincere and how's it going? You want to know?
Take advice. All advice with a grain.
Should we start a GoFundMe for my jet ski?
I've never done a GoFundMe before.
Me neither.
Kind of fun. Yeah.
No, we can't ask people to contribute to a Jet Ski that's frivolous. There's people out there that actually need.
I'm pretty sure that GoFundMe has a lot of frivolous stuff on it, but not from us.
We can't contribute to that.
We'll earn. Well, earn the jets case.
We'll see you next time on Service Drive Revolution.
