CC Rice read Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye at 11 and calls it a masterpiece. The novel centers on self-esteem in childhood: if it dies young, you get stuck. Rice identified with the girls in the story and says the book allowed them to become who they are.
The Bluest Eye. It's both a tragic story and an incredibly beautiful story that is so far ahead of its time. It is a masterpiece of epic proportions.
I can't believe you read this book at 11. It's heavy.
Me, I was reading the book from all of the young girls perspectives. I was seeing myself, honestly, in all of them.
Self esteem plays such a big part of it.
If your self esteem dies while you're still a child, it's almost like you just get stuck.
Okay, big question.
Yeah.
How did the Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison change your life?
It allowed me to.
