Ruth B. discusses how the cat in The Guest Cat symbolizes life's fleeting, unowned moments. These temporary encounters leave lasting beauty despite their impermanence, much like human love and relationships that matter even when they don't last forever.
What would you say the cat symbolizes in the book? Some things in life you don't own. They might be temporary, they might come into your life just for like a moment, but that doesn't mean that it's not important. Doesn't mean that it can't affect you. And I think whether it's love or a relationship, I think we all kind of have like a possessiveness about us, and maybe it can be fleeting and maybe it'll go, but that doesn't mean it didn't impact you and wasn't beautiful in your life.
