Sarah Shahi divorced in 2020 while landing the lead in Sex/Life. As the show aired, women wrote to her praising her courage to restart at 40 with three kids. Her team dismissed her idea to write a book, saying she should stick to acting for money. She wanted to tell her story anyway.
It was 2020. I had gotten a divorce at the same time I got cast in the show called Sex/Life. By the time the show came out, news of my divorce broke, and women from all over the world were writing to me, how did you have the guts to do it, start over at 40 with 3 kids? Then I was like, what if I wrote a book? At the time, I had these reps that when I told them, like, I'd like to write a book, they laughed, and they were like, you don't know how to write, you don't have anything to say, why don't you stick to acting, it'll pay you more. And, um, when you're 80 or 60, maybe you can like write a memoir. Like, that's what they told me, my reps. Like, I'm paying you guys.
