It features a personal narrative discussing the speaker's diverse religious upbringing and late introduction to gospel music, contrasting with their early exposure to pop, rock, and hip hop.
Did music start in church? I wasn't a church kid. No? No. My mom took me to a Catholic church when I was young. And no diss to the Catholic faith, but there's no, like, real musical vibe in the Catholic school. No. So I was Catholic, Methodist, Baptist. So there was no one faith. My mother, I think, was searching, too. So she went from one church to the next. And it didn't deter my belief in God. I believe that God does exist. I just learned different. I wasn't in a church choir. I wasn't a preacher's kid. Honestly. I didn't listen to gospel until high school. I was a kid that listened to pop and rock music as a kid and hip hop and all those other things. Gospel music wasn't introduced to me until I went to creative and performing arts.
