A conversational interview where Chris Collins and Tarek Abdelkhalig discuss how Stromae’s album Racine Carrée (Racim Kare in the transcript) entered Tarek’s life around age 21 and became personally meaningful despite language and geographic differences. The piece explores music as a soundtrack to life and how specific songs (e.g., "Papa Ute") elicited emotional and physical responses.
So the album we're here to talk about today that changed your life is Racim Kare by Stromae.
How old are you when this album comes into your life? I think I just turned 21. I don't know this guy. I've never met this guy in my life. I don't even speak the same language that he does. But he made something on the other side of the planet that I can genuinely connect with.
So how did the album change your life?
And we've all had music that's been the soundtrack to our childhood, to the highs and lows that we've had in life. And what we want to explore here today is the albums that have changed our life.
And like, when you listen Papa Ute the first time, you're like, oh, this feels good. And you translate the lyrics. You're like, yo, I've been dancing to this.
Our special guest today is Toric Abdel Khaled.
