Honesty is what makes comedy land. Jokes that chase laughs fail, but truthful observations resonate because they voice what people think but are too ashamed to say. The speaker credits a book with helping them confront shame around women's sexuality and find authentic humor.
The honesty is the key part with comedy. You have to be honest. Usually when you're like, oh, well maybe I'll switch it to this because it's funnier, it's like, no, the honest thing is always the funniest thing, and it's the thing that resonates the most because people are like, oh, I was thinking that and I didn't, I didn't have the guts to say it, or I shouldn't tell anyone, or I had shame about it. A lot of this stuff has to do with shame, like especially women with sex. There's so much shame involved with wanting to have sex and being sexual in general. So I think this book does a good job of being like, yeah, there should be shame, but I don't really feel any anymore.
