A book uses narrative structure as a trap. The first half manipulates how you read it, then the second half shows a character being manipulated the same way, mirroring what just happened to you. The author makes you feel what deception feels like.
I think it's really interesting that the author basically puts you through part 1, completely manipulates your mind, and then in part 2, you witness someone whose mind is being manipulated. And I think it's almost like a symbol to show, like, whether you like it or not, like, you know what it's like to be manipulated. You know what it's like to think that you're living a certain life or to be reading about someone's life and then have it be completely flipped.
