A short YouTube trailer featuring Iranian pop star Googoosh speaking about the effects of the 1979 Iranian Revolution on her life and career — notably that she was banned from singing for 21 years — and hinting at a previously unrevealed personal confession. The piece juxtaposes Googoosh’s recollections of pre-revolution freedoms with the silencing imposed by the new regime.

When did Siddhartha enter your life? I read this book after the revolution. How old were you when the revolution happened? 28.
The Iranian Revolution.
A revolution.
That swept away all traces of the shock.
For 21 years they banned me from singing.
Iran's brightest star extinguished. But new Islamic regime.
We had beautiful life. People free to wear what they wanted. Free to swim with bathing suits. Free to sing, free to dance. Free to go wherever they wanted. But now, everything.
For the first time, I want to confess.
Nobody heard this from me before.
Last night I decided.
