In this first‑person commentary, Kal Penn recounts his experience guest‑hosting The Daily Show after Trevor Noah’s departure and interviewing President Joe Biden. He explains that his intention was to explore the behind‑the‑scenes political pressure and decision‑making process rather than policy debate. After the interview aired, audience reaction split: some viewers praised the approach while others dismissed it as “softball” questioning. Penn acknowledges that he failed to clearly articulate the interview’s purpose beforehand, and he reflects that the key lesson was the need to set up the interview’s framing and intent for the audience.
